I always like to do end-of-year retrospectives for myself. I'm not sure if this "new year, new life" kind of compartmentalizing is necessarily good for anyone, but we all do it so who cares. Putting this out to the public this time so everyone can have an idea of what they get from my posts monthly on gumroad!
My personal goal last year was to try to work less, which I absolutely, without question, failed at. I want to have a relationship with my job where they have to pry my evenings and weekends out of my unwilling hands rather than have me give it over to them out of a sad sense of guilt and loyalty. I don't want anyone else's lives to be harder than they are, so I feel like I put myself out there a bit too much. My loyalty though isn't necessarily to the job as much as it is to my co-workers, who I don't want to, through my inaction, force into doing more.
That said, I still have a lot to be proud of, and I'll be tweaking my 2022 goals to being a little less about work and a little more about good old-fashioned selfishness.
This year opened with artwork for the cover of Ewen Cluney's Back to the Rifter.
I got Murky as my foster at the end of 2020 and resolved to keep her in 2021
I moved! For the first time in about 15 years, I'm living alone again thanks to my full-time job. I love living alone but it's been expensive just to get all the furniture I need. Still a few new things I need to get.
I was graciously given editorial credit for my work on Super Sentai: Himitsu Sentai Gorenger.
Worked on the adaptation of a few manga that were released this year: Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear volume 4 and 5, and I Can't Believe I Slept With You! volume 1. Volume 2 comes out soon. I also am the rewriter on a new project that I can't tell you about, but it's very exciting for me.
I read hundreds of manga for work this year, so coming up with a comprehensive list doesn't seem worth the trouble, but I wrote a new blog post for the first time in a while about one I've been enjoying. Expect more posts like this to come.
I also edited a novel for a friend and it took me all damn year, but I DID IT. If/when they post it somewhere, I'll let you know.
All my gumroad subscribers have seen the art I've been making so I don't feel like I need to get into that.
"Resolutions" are always a bit wishy-washy, I prefer to set myself goals. There's more this year than I usually like to have but I think they can be done.
Immigrate my spouse to Canada from Finland now that I have the money and space to do so.
Learn to drive. I'll be taking a driving course in February/March and getting my license for the first time!
Luxuriate in life.
I have another doujinshi project in the oven that I've been working on but I regret having made it 108 pages. It'd be nice if I could finish that this year too, but Patriah is closer to being finished, so I thought it should go on the top of the list.
Anyway so this kind of monthly update is what you have to look forward to as a gumroad member. I switched to here from Patreon due to Patreon's questionable policies on adult content, so I'd really appreciate your support in my switch to gumroad, which has a wonderful adult content policy. Thank you all so much for your time and support. I hope your 2021 has been not the worst, and that your 2022 is excellent.
